Give Me Your Heart

Clean Hands, a Pure Heart, and the Pursuit of Holiness; "Psalms 24:3-4 AMP Who may ascend onto the mountain of the Lord? And who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to what is false, nor has sworn [oaths] deceitfully. [Matt 5:8]" "Psalms 51:17 AMP My [only] sacrifice [acceptable] to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart [broken with sorrow for sin, thoroughly penitent], such, O God, You will not despise."

Among all the questions David asked throughout his life, perhaps none is more profound than this: "Who may ascend onto the mountain of the Lord? And who may stand in His holy place?" This is not merely a question about entering a physical location. Neither is it simply a question about worship. David is asking something far deeper. Who is qualified to live in continual fellowship with God? Who can walk closely enough with Him to hear His voice? Who can remain in His presence without continually drawing back?
Who can carry His glory? Who can bear His heart? These are questions every believer must answer. For many years I believed this passage simply described good behaviour. The more I have walked with God, however, the more I have realized that David is describing the condition of a heart that God can trust with His presence. There is a difference between visiting God's presence and dwelling there. Many believers visit. Few abide. God's desire has always been for His people to live in continual communion with Him.
One of Satan's greatest deceptions is convincing believers that holiness is primarily about restrictions. He presents holiness as though God wishes to make life smaller. Nothing could be further from the truth. Holiness is not God's method of limiting us. Holiness is God's way of preparing us for Himself. Everything God asks us to surrender is something that hinders deeper intimacy. He never removes without replacing it with something infinitely greater. When He asks us to leave bitterness... He offers peace. When He asks us to forsake pride... He offers grace.
When He asks us to abandon impurity... He offers Himself. Holiness is not primarily about what we stop doing. It is about Who we continually draw nearer to. The closer we come to the Lord, the less attractive sin becomes. This is why true holiness cannot be produced merely by rules. It grows naturally out of relationship. The believer who genuinely loves Christ begins to desire what pleases Him. Not because of obligation. But because love always seeks to honour the One it loves.

1. Where is the Holy Spirit inviting you to give God your whole heart and pursue holiness as separation unto Him?

PRAY
Father, I give You my heart again. Search every affection, motive, ambition, and hidden loyalty, and remove whatever competes with your rightful place. Teach me holiness as joyful separation unto You, and unite my heart so that I love You without divided devotion and live wholly for Your pleasure. In Jesus' name, Amen.
PRACTICE
Ask the Lord to search your heart. Name one attitude, motive, habit, or attachment that needs surrender, then respond with repentance and one practical change.
