The Father's Eternal Purpose

When the World Encounters Christ Through His People
"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, arrayed like a bride adorned for her husband; and then I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, 'See! The tabernacle of God is among men, and He will live among them; and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be with them [as their God,] and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be death; there will no longer be sorrow and anguish, or crying, or pain; for the former order of things has passed away.' And He who sits on the throne said, 'Behold, I am making all things new.' And He said, 'Write, for these words are faithful and true.'" -Revelation 21:1-5
As we journey through the Scriptures, one truth becomes unmistakably clear: God's purpose has never changed. From Genesis to Revelation, He has desired one thing above all else-to dwell with His people. In the Garden of Eden, God walked with Adam. In the wilderness, He dwelt among Israel in the Tabernacle. In Jerusalem, His glory filled the Temple. In the fullness of time, "the Word became flesh" and dwelt among us in the person of Jesus Christ. Today, through the Holy Spirit, He dwells within every believer.
One day, according to Revelation, He will dwell with His redeemed people forever. Everything God has done throughout history has been moving toward this glorious reality. The story of redemption is the story of God restoring fellowship with mankind. The secret place is therefore not simply about personal devotion. It is about participating in God's eternal purpose. Throughout this book we have discovered that the secret place is where God transforms us. It is where He reveals His heart. It is where He enlarges our capacity. It is where He equips us.
It is where we are marinated in His glory. But God's work does not end there. He never transforms us simply for our own benefit. Every encounter with God carries a responsibility. Every revelation demands expression. Every work of grace seeks manifestation. The world cannot see the secret place. But it can certainly see the life that emerges from it. This is why the Father calls us into hidden places. Not so we remain hidden forever. But so that Christ may be revealed through us.
The Christian life is never intended to terminate upon ourselves. We become channels through which heaven touches the earth.
REFLECT
1. Where is the Holy Spirit inviting you to see intimacy as participation in God's eternal purpose?
2. What competing voice, habit, fear, or desire needs to become quieter so that this truth can shape you?
PRAY
Father, open my understanding to Your eternal purpose and let my intimacy with You serve more than my personal comfort. Conform me to the image of Your Son, draw me into the life of Your family, and make me a dwelling place for Your presence. Align my days with the purpose You planned from eternity. In Jesus' name, Amen.
PRACTICE
Set aside 10-15 unhurried minutes today. Ask God to help you see intimacy as participation in God's eternal purpose. Write down one truth to carry and one concrete act of obedience.
